Choosing the right dosing pump for your customer – a guide for NZ dealers and suppliers

June 3, 2026

If you supply to farms, orchards, or industrial operations across New Zealand, chances are your customers ask about dosing pumps regularly. Mineral supplementation for dairy herds, fertigation for horticulture, and chlorination for water treatment – the applications are wide, and the questions are consistent. This guide is designed to help you understand the MixRite range, how to match the right pump to a customer’s application, and how to get support when you need it.

Understanding the two main pump types

MixRite supplies two main types of dosing pumps: hydraulic and electric. Hydraulic models are water-powered. They draw their operating energy from the pressure and flow of the main water line, which means they require no electricity at the pump itself. This makes them the default choice for most farm applications – they are simple to install, easy to maintain, and work reliably in remote locations without power infrastructure. Electric models, specifically the MixRite E-300, run on 240VAC or 12VDC including solar. They offer precise digital control and are suited to applications where the dosing rate needs to be set independently of the water flow – typically greenhouse fertigation, food and beverage processing, or industrial chemical dosing where consistent dosing matters more than proportionality.

Matching the pump to the application

The three variables that determine which hydraulic pump model suits a customer are water flow rate, operating water pressure, and the required dosing ratio. MixRite’s hydraulic range covers flow rates from 1m3/h to 25m3/h, and dosing ratios from 0.2% to 10%. Pressure range is 0.2 to 14 bar for most models, with gravity-fed options available for low-pressure installations. For customers on gravity-fed systems – common on hill country farms and properties without a pressure pump – the TF25 has been successfully installed across a number of these applications in New Zealand. For customers who need to know their pump is performing even when they are off-farm, the MixRite TF/SMS-4 Cellular Remote Alarm and Control system provides real-time 4G monitoring and alerts. This is a unique product – nothing equivalent is available from any other NZ supplier.
